This 72-page booklet offers national guidance where guidance may otherwise be unavailable, incomplete or not up to date, but should not be used as a replacement for local or other professional guidance or regulations. It sets out principles rather than trying to cover every eventuality, leaving it to teachers to use their professional judgement when applying and implementing the guidance.
The booklet contains forms for use in planning education visits, including parental consent and emergency contact forms. Most local education authorities already have their own forms reflecting their own visits policy, but these forms can be used where there are no others available.
Details of useful documents are also provided alongside contact information for governing bodies, associations, and others involved in educational visits. Although the booklet is primarily for staff in schools and local education authorities in England, it may be useful for staff in nurseries, further education colleges and youth organisations.
