Education Minister Parmjit Dhanda released the Government’s response to the Sustainable Schools Consultation on 4 December.
Nine hundred consultation responses came from a wide range of people working in or with schools, including more than 300 children and young people. Children told the DfES how worried they are about the state of their local environment, and about big issues like climate change and injustice around the world.
The release of the response comes ahead of a formal action plan, to be launched early in 2007, which will set out how the Department will work with partners to realise the vision in the Sustainable Schools strategy.
Both activities are part of a Year of Action on sustainable schools, which started in September 2006. The aim of the year is to enable schools to embed sustainability in all aspects of their operations.
