This guidance advises schools and Local Authorities (LAs) on using specific grants for learning, teaching and managing with ICT over 2006 – 2007.

The change in ICT funding arrangements does not lessen the Government's commitment to learning technologies. Funding has increased year-on-year from £102m in the original National Grid for Learning programme in 1998-1999 to £741m in 2006 - 2007, just as funding has largely moved away from being delivered by ring-fenced grants to encouraging greater flexibility in the use of grants.

The change in technology is rapid so it is important to concentrate on and accelerate those outputs and outcomes that address the most pressing local and national issues.

This guidance provides an overview of priorities for investment, explains to schools and LAs where specific ICT funding can be found, gives advice on strategic procurement and aggregation, and provides a range of sources of advice.
