Careers Education helps young people develop the knowledge, confidence and skills they need to make well-informed choices and plans that enable them to progress smoothly into further learning and work, now and in the future.
This guidance is for the governing bodies and heads of maintained secondary and middle schools (including academies and special schools), local authorities and teachers-in-charge of Pupil Referral Units (PRUs). It was produced following a formal consultation which took place between 7 May and 30 July 2009. It gives advice on how to meet the statutory duty in relation to careers education and ensure that the young people for whom they are responsible receive the support they need.
A Resources Pack to help schools/PRUs implement this Statutory Guidance will be issued in January. A leaflet outlining what the Resources Pack will include is available to download below.
