This publication was developed to support schools in implementing personalised learning and to help them move to a system based on progression, underpinned by assessment for learning, with relevant interventions such as one-to-one support.
The guidance is designed to help school leaders, School Improvement Partners and teachers explore key aspects of personalised teaching and learning - such as target setting, focussed assessment and supporting children's wider needs - in an-easy-to-use-format which encourages the evaluation of priorities for further development.
It describes the importance of each aspect, how to do them well, and signposts the resources and materials available, such as the Assessment for Learning Strategy and the School Improvement Planning Framework.
Personalised learning is central to raising standards and is critical in working towards a society where a child's chances of success are not limited by their socio-economic background, gender, ethnicity or any disability.
