The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (to which the UK is a signatory) states that children and young people have a right to say what they think about matters that affect them and a right to have those views taken seriously.
The government wants children and young people to have more opportunities to get involved in the design, provision and evaluation of policies and services that affect them or which they use.
The aim of this publication is to provide a common framework within which departments can develop tailored policies, action plans and effective practice to implement this important work successfully.
